5m SMD5050 LED strip on 12V with a fixed-wiring supply

Some 12V projects need a strip with larger LED chips and higher power. This 5m SMD5050 LED strip set has 60 LEDs per metre, measures 10 mm wide and uses 14.4 W/m. The set includes a 12 V power supply for permanent wiring, without a plug.

Connecting the fixed-wiring supply to the SMD5050 strip

The 12 V power supply has screw terminals and no plug. The 230 V side requires permanent wiring, by an installer if you are unsure; the cabled connector joins the 12 V side to the strip. At 12 V, use no more than 5 m per power feed.

Indoor lighting with larger LED chips

Use the strip along a large desk in a hobby room, by an indoor workbench or beneath a wide shelf in a dry storeroom. Choose the fixed colour temperature to suit the desired appearance.

SMD5050 or SMD2835 on 12V?

SMD5050 has larger LED chips, is 10 mm wide and consumes 14.4 W per metre. SMD2835 versions are 8 mm wide and use less power at 4.8 W/m or 9.6 W/m. Choose according to the available width and required power rating.

Colour temperature when more light is needed

• 2400K Extra warm white: warm lighting for a hospitality display.
• 3000K Warm white: a warm appearance above a desk.
• 4000K Neutral white: practical light along a display wall.
• 6000K Cool white: white light along a technical workbench.

Making the 12V light adjustable

If workbench lighting needs to vary, use the separately available Mi-Light single-colour LED strip controller with a Mi-Light 4-zone remote control; fit the controller between supply and strip. A conventional 230 V wall dimmer will not work.
