UGR19 LED panels

UGR19 LED Panels

An office where you can look at your screen all day in comfort, without bright spots in the corner of your eye or reflections on your monitor. That is what UGR19 LED panels are for: they spread the light softly and evenly and keep glare below the limit the standard sets for offices and screen work. Choose from 60x60, 62x62, 30x120 and 30x150, up to 200 lm/W, also dimmable with 0-10V or DALI.

Where a UGR19 panel makes the difference

  • Offices and flexible workspaces: calm light on desk and keyboard, without bright areas reflecting in your screen.
  • Schools and training rooms: students see the board, screen and paper without being bothered by glaring fittings overhead.
  • Meeting rooms: a presentation stays easy to read on screen, and with a dimmable driver you adjust the light to the meeting. See the dimmable LED panels.
  • Healthcare, practices and receptions: bright, even light that never feels harsh for patients, visitors and staff.

What does UGR19 mean?

UGR stands for Unified Glare Rating: a measure of the glare caused by a light fitting, on a scale of roughly 10 to 30. The lower the value, the less glare. The European standard EN 12464-1 sets a maximum of UGR 19 for office work, reading, writing and screen work, together with 500 lux at the workstation and a colour rendering of at least Ra 80. All our UGR19 panels have Ra >80.

A UGR19 panel has a special diffuser that directs the light downwards and limits the brightness at shallow viewing angles. The stated value is measured under standard conditions; the actual glare in a room also depends on the layout of the fittings and the dimensions of the room. Read more on UGR rating.

Which UGR19 LED panel should you choose?

1. The size: matching your ceiling

  • 60x60 cm (595 x 595 mm): for suspended ceilings with a 600 mm grid, the standard in most offices. See the LED panels 60x60.
  • 62x62 cm (620 x 620 mm): for ceilings with a 625 mm grid, common in older buildings and in Germany. See the LED panels 62x62.
  • 30x120 cm: for long, narrow bays in a 600 mm grid, and for corridors. See the LED panels 30x120.
  • 30x150 cm: for surface mounting or suspension in long spaces such as classrooms and corridors. See the LED panels 30x150.

Not sure about the size? Measure the inside of a ceiling tile: 595 mm is 60x60, 620 mm is 62x62.

2. Efficiency and light output

  • 200 lm/W, 18 or 25 W selectable: a switch on the driver lets you choose 3,600 or 5,000 lumens. Energy label B and the lowest energy costs, in 4000K, 5000K and 6000K. In 60x60, 62x62 and 30x120.
  • 140 lm/W, back-lit: 28 W and 3,920 lumens, in 3000K, 4000K and 6000K. In 30x150 with 36 W and 5,040 lumens.
  • 120 lm/W, edge-lit: 36 W and 4,320 lumens in 60x60 and 30x120, 40 W and 4,800 lumens in 62x62 and 30x150.
  • CCT: 28 W and 140 lm/W, with adjustable colour temperature. See the CCT LED panels.

3. Back-lit or edge-lit

In a back-lit panel the LEDs are spread out behind the diffuser. That gives an even light surface and the highest efficiency. In an edge-lit panel the LEDs sit in the frame and a light guide plate spreads the light across the surface, which keeps the panel slim. Both versions are available with UGR <19.

4. Colour temperature

  • 4000K, neutral white: the standard for offices, schools and practices.
  • 3000K, warm white: for receptions, waiting areas and meeting rooms with a warmer feel.
  • 5000K and 6000K: daylight and cool white, for workshops, laboratories and spaces where details must be clearly visible.

Use the same colour temperature throughout a room. Read more on colour temperature.

5. Driver and dimming

For most UGR19 panels you choose the driver yourself: standard, a flicker-free Philips driver, dimmable 0-10V, dimmable Triac or dimmable DALI (Philips). With DALI you connect the panels to a building management system or a lighting control with sensors. The 200 lm/W panels come with a standard or Philips driver. See the LED panel drivers and the dimmable LED panels.

How many UGR19 panels do you need?

For an office with 500 lux at the workstation and a ceiling height of 2.7 to 3 metres, allow roughly one panel of about 4,000 lumens per 5 to 6 m².

  • Office of 30 m² with panels of 3,920 lumens: 5 to 6 panels.
  • The same office with 200 lm/W panels at 25 W (5,000 lumens): 4 to 5 panels.

This is an indication: the colour of walls and ceiling, the layout and the ceiling height all play a part. Read more on lumens and lux.

What do you need for installation?

  • Suspended ceiling: the panel drops straight into the grid, no extra parts needed.
  • Concrete or plastered ceiling: a surface-mount frame of 42 or 68 mm high, in white or black. See the surface-mount frames for LED panels.
  • Closed ceiling: recess clips for mounting in a cut-out.
  • Suspended: a suspension kit for mounting below a high ceiling. See the LED panel accessories.
  • Emergency lighting: an emergency battery for external LED drivers is available, up to 180 minutes. Ask us which combination suits your panel and driver.

An LED panel is connected to 230V. Have the connection made by a qualified electrician.

Frequently asked questions about UGR19 LED panels

What does UGR19 mean?

UGR19 means that the glare of the panel stays below the limit of 19 on the Unified Glare Rating scale. That is the value the standard sets for office work and screen work.

What is the difference between UGR19 and UGR22?

A panel with UGR 22 gives slightly more glare. That is often fine in corridors, warehouses and workshops. For desks, screens and classrooms, choose UGR19. See all LED panels.

Is UGR19 mandatory in an office?

The standard EN 12464-1 sets UGR 19 as the maximum for office work and screen work. Employers, lighting designers and installers use this standard as the basis for good workplace lighting.

Will a 60x60 panel fit my ceiling?

A 60x60 cm panel measures 595 x 595 mm and fits a suspended ceiling with a 600 mm grid. If your ceiling has a 625 mm grid, choose 62x62 cm.

Are UGR19 panels dimmable?

Yes, for most versions you can choose a dimmable driver: 0-10V, Triac or DALI. You make the choice on the product page when selecting the driver.

Are UGR19 panels flicker-free?

Choose the Philips driver if flicker-free light matters, for example for screen work and in schools. Each product shows which drivers are available.

Do you supply larger projects?

Yes. Business customers can pay on invoice and tiered pricing applies to larger quantities. For projects we are happy to prepare a tailored quote.
