The benefits of LED lighting

De voordelen van LED verlichting

Why is LED durable?

LED lighting offers significant advantages over conventional lighting technologies such as halogen, compact fluorescent, and traditional bulbs. Unlike these options that convert only a small percentage of electricity into light, LED lamps utilize 90 to 95 percent of electricity for lighting. This not only leads to substantial energy savings but also a clear reduction in electricity costs, with savings of up to 50-85 percent when switching to LED lighting in your home, office, or workspace.

Why is LED environmentally friendly?

In addition to energy savings, LED lamps also last much longer than halogen bulbs, compact fluorescent lamps, and traditional bulbs. While a halogen bulb lasts about 3000 hours and a compact fluorescent lamp lasts between 5000 and 10,000 hours, an LED lamp can last on average 20,000 hours or even longer. This means you won't have to replace bulbs repeatedly during this period, resulting in less waste and a lower environmental impact.

Another advantage of LED lighting is the availability of warm color tones, which were previously associated with traditional lighting technologies. Nowadays, warm white and extra warm white LED lamps are available, allowing you to enjoy a cozy and inviting atmosphere at home without compromising on energy efficiency.

Moreover, LED lamps do not contain hazardous substances, unlike compact fluorescent lamps that contain mercury and require special handling upon disposal. This makes LED lighting not only safer for use but also more environmentally friendly during its lifespan and disposal.

Finally, LED lamps are suitable for various applications, including outdoor lighting. With waterproof variants, LED lamps can be used worry-free for garden lighting, patio lighting, and other outdoor spaces, making them a versatile and durable choice for both indoor and outdoor use.

How and how much do you save with LED lighting?

LED lighting is extremely energy and cost-saving. This is because LED has a relatively low power (wattage) with a high light output (lumen). Thus, LED easily replaces a halogen or compact fluorescent lamp with a power (wattage) that is 50% to 80% higher while providing the same or sometimes higher light output (lumen).

How does LED help increase productivity and mood?

LED lighting works at full brightness immediately after being turned on. Fluorescent tubes and compact fluorescent lamps have a startup period. Especially with compact fluorescent lamps, it takes a while before they emit full light because they need to warm up. In rooms where you want immediate light, this can be quite annoying. LED lamps do not suffer from this effect and provide full light right away.

Why don't LEDs get hot?

Unlike incandescent and halogen lamps, which can get quite hot, LED lamps hardly get warm. This is due to the way the lamps operate:

Incandescent lamps:

  • Incandescent lamps produce light by heating a filament until it glows. This process generates a lot of heat, with temperatures reaching up to 2700°C.
  • Only 5% of the energy in an incandescent lamp is converted into light; the rest is wasted as heat.

Halogen lamps:

  • Halogen lamps operate in the same way as incandescent lamps, but with a halogen capsule around the filament. This increases efficiency and lifespan, but the lamps still get warm, with temperatures reaching up to 500°C.
  • About 10% of the energy in a halogen lamp is converted into light.

LED lamps:

  • LED lamps use light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to produce light. LEDs are semiconductors that emit light when an electric current passes through them.
  • This process generates very little heat, with temperatures reaching up to 70°C.
  • About 20-30% of the energy in an LED lamp is converted into light, which is a much higher efficiency than incandescent and halogen lamps.

Heat dissipation:

  • LED lamps often have heat sinks to dissipate the heat they produce. This helps keep the lamp's temperature low and extends its lifespan.

Innovative Smart LED Lighting

LED lamps come in all shapes and sizes. With LED lighting, all colors and shapes are possible, and there is a bulb available for every type of fixture. All colors can also be produced, and the light intensity can be well regulated.

The Biggest Advantages of LED Lighting at a Glance

LED lamps offer a range of benefits that not only enhance home lighting but also contribute to a durable and environmentally friendly lifestyle. From their versatility to their energy efficiency, here are some reasons why LED lighting is a smart choice:

  • Sustainability: LED lighting lasts much longer than traditional lamps, meaning they need to be replaced less often and contribute to less waste.
  • Environmental Friendliness: Due to their lower energy consumption and the absence of harmful substances, LED lamps are more environmentally friendly and reduce the ecological footprint.
  • Energy and Cost Savings: Thanks to their efficiency, LED lamps consume significantly less energy than conventional lamps, resulting in lower energy costs in the long run.
  • Improvement of Productivity and Mood: LED lighting provides bright and consistent light that can enhance productivity and positively influence mood, especially in spaces where prolonged stay is required.
  • Cool to the Touch: Unlike traditional lamps, LED lamps produce almost no heat, making them safer to touch and reducing the risk of fire hazards.
